In this technical report we describe the main characteristics of relevant fieldbus networks, which directly target the support of distributed computer-controlled systems (DCCS). Particular relevance is given to CAN, P-NET, PROFIBUS and WorldFIP protocols. We will also survey some of the most relevant results concerning the ability of these fieldbus protocols to support real-time communications.
