Abstract:
The use of IoT devices in industry allows for greater efficiency and effectiveness and reducing cost and waste in manufacturing. However, the deployment of innumerable devices for data gathering and control process pose challenging as interoperability between these heterogeneous devices is hard to reach. Hence, the Arrowhead Framework emerged as solution, proposed by a group of partners, supported by the European Union. Its aim is creating a framework for supporting the development, deployment and operation of interoperable, cooperative systems using a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Since Quality-of-Service (QoS) is often required in many applications, the Arrowhead Framework needs to provide QoS. A previous project had already built an architecture to provide QoS support in Arrowhead compliant systems capable of working with different communication protocols, however it was only tested using one. This project focus on restructuring the previously built architecture to keep it up to date with the Arrowhead Frameworks development and the development of a demonstration using the Wi-Fi protocol capable of testing the architecture after the changes. This involved updating the QoS monitoring system, developing new data gathering and processing structures and implementing mechanisms to handle QoS in Wi-Fi networks. The final solution includes support for Wi-Fi networks in the QoS configuration system and an updated and integrated QoS monitoring system.
